Stonewear vase

A beautiful hand- crafted stonewear vase with a pair of wings made by the artist John Kershaw. John takes inspiration from the ancient geography of his homeland, the Lake District, which can be detected in the mix of vivid colours of his work - sandy textured surfaces, deep turquoise, purple moorland colours and sharp lines reminiscent of rocky crags. After graduation, in 1972 he started making earthenwear and stonewear pottery in Windermere. Working freely and able to respond to the material and other, ancient pottery he prefers a quick, gestural method using a wheel to mimic ancient techniques.
